Meet Dr. Isbell – Sports Medicine Specialist in NC

Dr. Isbell is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and shoulder surgery.

Dr. Isbell completed his undergraduate and medical degrees at East Tennessee State University, James H. Quillen College of Medicine where he was awarded the James L. Thompson Leadership Award and was president of his medical school class. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in Lexington, KY, and was awarded the Leonard Marmour Surgical Arthritis Award for Excellence in Patient Care. After residency, Dr. Isbell completed a fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder service at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, NY.

His areas of expertise include arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the shoulder and knee with an emphasis on advanced arthroscopic techniques. His clinical and research interests include:

• Reverse Shoulder Replacement
• Arthroscopic Labral Repairs of the Shoulder
• Meniscus Surgery of the Knee
• ACL Reconstruction of the Knee

Dr. Isbell has authored and co-authored scientific articles and book chapters on various sports medicine related topics including ACL reconstruction, shoulder arthroscopy, meniscal repair, and shoulder arthritis. He is a reviewer for the Journal of Arthroscopy and The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. He has been the Head Team Orthopedic Surgeon for the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes since 2006.
